Tokyo

It is odd that I am not able to write a long post about vegetarian/halal food in Tokyo. I think my trip in Japan overall did not revolved around food, it was rather about culture and all the sightseeings we did.

Nevertheless, below few food places I visited while in Tokyo.

~ Masaka
I stayed nearby the Shibuya crossings, across the Shibuya Parco (a shopping mall). Below in the basement there are different places where you can eat. I went to Masaka which is a vegan restaurant. This place is known for its karaage and gyoza’s. Karaage mostly consist of marinated chicken but this version is made of soy. The gyoza’s had also some vegan filling inside. So I ordered both dishes plus Onigiri (rice balls) and I like them all.

At the same shopping mall, in the basement you can find some halal restaurant where they serve halal wagyu hamburg. I did not go myself, but my partner did since he eats meat and he liked this place. We went separately our own way and the good thing is that the place facilitates people eating alone and it is not odd at all.

Price: $ – $$
Suitable:  Halal for wagyu hamburg only

~Wagyu Yakiniku Panga

I am not a meat eater, but I know when visiting Japan wagyu beef is a must try. Luckily I found one of the numerous halal places where you can have wagyu. However, is further away then the most touristic places, but we have combined this with a visit to the Akihabara electronics, where you can also find some video games, anime and manga.

At Wagyu Yakiniku Panga you can order Korean and Japanese dishes. You can order a platter of steaks and grill it yourself at the table. Luckily for me I could have some shrimps. But this place is known for the wagyu beef and my husband thinks it was legit. Overall, this is a good place for meat lovers who would like to sense some Asian eating experience.

p.s. the non-alcoholic plum soda is worth a try

Price: $$-$$$
Suitable:  Halal meat lovers
